"Explain It To Me: Genre-Training Tutors in SSWCS" for SSWCA 2026 @ UConn. Abstract: "Every tutor has some idea of what it means to make better writers. In SSWCs, most students bring in their English papers, hoping to improve and better understand structure or grammar. But when it comes to creative or scientific writing, the English-genre framework is out the window. As generalists, tutors are pitched as being able to help with any paper due to their familiarity with tutoring theory—but in unfamiliar disciplines, tutors may get lost, leaving writers unfulfilled. This presentation discusses the benefits of genre-training SSWC tutors, how genre-training can be implemented in SSWCs, and its implementation in our center."
